Building the Kingdom
“Therefore, I say to you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.” Matthew 21:43
Are you among those from whom the Kingdom of God will be taken away? Or among those to whom it will be given so as to produce good fruit? This is an important question to sincerely answer.
The first grouping of people, those who will have the Kingdom of God taken away from them, are represented in this parable by the tenants of the vineyard. It is clear that one of their greatest sins is greed. They are selfish. They see the vineyard as a place through which they can enrich themselves and care little about the good of others. Sadly, this mind frame is easy to adopt in our own lives. It’s easy to see life as a series of opportunities for us to “get ahead.” It’s easy to approach life in a way that we are constantly looking out for ourselves rather than sincerely seeking the good of others.
The second grouping of people, those to whom the Kingdom of God will be given so that it will produce good fruit, are those who understand that the central purpose of life is not to simply enrich themselves but to share the love of God with others. These are the people who are constantly looking for ways that they can be a true blessing to others. It’s the difference between selfishness and generosity.
But the generosity to which we are primarily called is to build up the Kingdom of God. This is done through works of charity, but it must be a charity that is motivated by the Gospel and has the Gospel as its ultimate end. Caring for the needy, teaching, serving and the like are all good only when Christ is the motivation and end goal. Our lives must make Jesus more known and loved, more understood and followed. In fact, even if we were to feed a multitude of people in poverty, care for those who were sick, or visit those who were lonely, but did it for reasons other than to ultimately share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, then our work would not produce the good fruit of building up the Kingdom of Heaven. In that case, we would only be philanthropists rather than missionaries of the love of God.
Reflect, today, upon the mission given to you by our Lord to produce an abundance of good fruit for the upbuilding of His Kingdom. Know that this can only be accomplished by prayerfully seeking out the way God is inspiring you to act. Seek to serve His will alone so that all you do will be for God’s glory and the salvation of souls.
Am I helping to produce good fruit for the Kingdom of Heaven?
Let us pray:
My glorious King, I pray that Your Kingdom will grow and that many souls will come to know You as their Lord and God. Use me, dear Lord, for the upbuilding of that Kingdom and help all my actions in life to bear abundant and good fruit.

Construyendo el Reino
“Por eso os digo que el Reino de Dios os será quitado y será dado a un pueblo que produzca sus frutos”. Mateo 21:43
¿Estás entre aquellos a quienes se les quitará el Reino de Dios? ¿O entre aquellos a quienes se les dará para que produzcan buenos frutos? Esta es una pregunta importante para responder con sinceridad.
El primer grupo de personas, aquellos a quienes se les quitará el Reino de Dios, están representados en esta parábola por los labradores de la viña. Está claro que uno de sus mayores pecados es la codicia. Son egoístas. Ven la viña como un lugar a través del cual pueden enriquecerse y se preocupan poco por el bien de los demás. Lamentablemente, este marco mental es fácil de adoptar en nuestras propias vidas. Es fácil ver la vida como una serie de oportunidades para “salir adelante”. Es fácil abordar la vida de una manera en la que constantemente nos preocupamos por nosotros mismos en lugar de buscar sinceramente el bien de los demás.
El segundo grupo de personas, aquellos a quienes se les dará el Reino de Dios para que produzca buenos frutos, son aquellos que entienden que el propósito central de la vida no es simplemente enriquecerse sino compartir el amor de Dios con los demás. Estas son las personas que buscan constantemente formas de ser una verdadera bendición para los demás. Es la diferencia entre el egoísmo y la generosidad.
Pero la generosidad a la que estamos principalmente llamados es a construir el Reino de Dios. Esto se hace a través de obras de caridad, pero debe ser una caridad que esté motivada por el Evangelio y tenga el Evangelio como fin último. Cuidar de los necesitados, enseñar, servir y cosas por el estilo son buenas solo cuando Cristo es la motivación y la meta final. Nuestras vidas deben hacer que Jesús sea más conocido y amado, más comprendido y seguido. De hecho, incluso si tuviéramos que alimentar a una multitud de personas en la pobreza, cuidar a los que están enfermos o visitar a los que están solos, pero lo hicimos por razones distintas a la de compartir el Evangelio de Jesucristo, entonces nuestro trabajo sería no produzca el buen fruto de la edificación del Reino de los Cielos. En ese caso, solo seríamos filántropos y no misioneros del amor de Dios.
Reflexionad hoy sobre la misión que os encomendó nuestro Señor de producir abundancia de buenos frutos para la edificación de su Reino. Sepa que esto solo se puede lograr buscando en oración la forma en que Dios lo está inspirando a actuar. Busca servir solo a Su voluntad para que todo lo que hagas sea para la gloria de Dios y la salvación de las almas.
¿Estoy ayudando a producir buenos frutos para el Reino de los Cielos?
Oremos:
Mi glorioso Rey, oro para que Tu Reino crezca y que muchas almas lleguen a conocerte como su Señor y Dios. Úsame, amado Señor, para la edificación de ese Reino y ayuda a que todas mis acciones en la vida den frutos abundantes y buenos.
